概要

背景

Do you use a manual toothbrush? If you do, do you care about it? Is it something important in your life? Do you remember the last time you bought one? What were your criteria for choosing one?

We bet you don’t really care about your manual toothbrush! Why? Well, because it’s not a very exciting object. People don’t desire a manual toothbrush in the same way they desire a particular smart phone, shampoo or shaver. Toothbrushes are never on the shopping list and it is really hard to know which one to choose from the shelves! Often, your dentist will tell you which one to buy and you do this without giving it a second thought.

All manual toothbrushes look the same and seem to offer similar benefits: this one has more bristles, that one looks better, has a better grip or has a tongue cleaner… but in the end, they all look the same, so why pay more? In comparison, electric toothbrushes are much more exciting …but very expensive!

This needs to change! Manual brushes should be reinvented to become exciting objects.

A leading oral care brand would like to find breakthrough ideas to completely rethink and stir up the manual toothbrush offer. Can you help by coming up with out-of-the-box ideas for a new manual toothbrush that will surprise people willing to pay a bit more for something never seen before?

Wow us with your idea of a premium manual toothbrush (ideally with its packaging) that brings something totally new to the experience of brushing teeth.

We’d like you to be breakthrough without limits! Think about your brushing experience. What are you not happy with? What is missing to make the moment better and more exciting? How could you take better care of your oral hygiene or make your brushing moment more fun? Or how can your toothbrush stand out as a beautiful object in your bathroom that you will be happy to see every day and not leave it hidden or unnoticed in a glass?

There are many ways to answer this brief. It is really up to you, and the more novel, the better. Your innovation can address one or several of the following areas or any others you can think of:

  • Look, design and materials: a never seen before aesthetic design or feel.
  • Features/technology: what functionalities could be added to the brush? It can be more efficient or entertaining or with a new technology embedded
  • Packaging: can you break the usual codes? The way the brush is presented on the shelf can have a high impact.
  • Ergonomics: how can you make manual brush user-friendlier? The way to take, use and store the brush can also be an area for reinvention.

It should cost a bit more than a regular toothbrush as it is a premium manual toothbrush, but please make sure that it doesn’t cost as much as an electrical one.  

Keep in mind that we are talking about a manual toothbrush. We don’t want you to think about electric toothbrushes. Your idea can use a technology that needs power but the brush itself must be manual.

You can use 2D or 3D design or sketches to show us what the toothbrush looks like and what your idea is about. It can be presented with or without packaging. If your design includes a special packaging to make it stand out on the shelf, please show us or explain how it will be displayed in a store.

入賞基準

To win this contest, you need to design a manual toothbrush (and ideally its packaging) that will revolutionize perception of this product and that improves people’s teeth brushing experience. It needs to add value, bring unexplored features/benefits and be totally new to the world.

  • The quality of design matters in this contest. You have a better chance of winning if your idea is presented nicely and clearly.
